A return to Oban please?

My friends should always remember that going out with me is always eventful. Today I had an appointment at the Job Center so that they could discuss my lack of employment and why I could wall paper the walls with rejection letters. I caught the bus, having got up at the crack of dawn to walk the dogs, at 9 am. It was a bit late but I thought little of it. We winged our way across the Argyll landscape to Carnasserie where my LFS got on to accompany me on my day out. Half a mile further up the road the bus broke down ,having lost all the water from the radiator. The Driver thought that we would be at least half an hour late, so LFS suggested we walk back and get her car from the car park. We did this and got to Town just in time for the Job Center. I rushed in and was asked why I was there. “For my appointment I say.” “Oh”, they reply “You should have been told to go to L. ” This is 35 miles back the other way where there IS NO Job Center! Of course! Although there wasn’t a soul in the place ,they could not discuss it with me. So of I went to find LFS at Costa. Now everyone should have an LFS, (Little Friend——- fill in the blank with a friends name.) Because she in her calming way ,as steam spurted from my ears, said ” Never mind ,the day can only get better.” And it did. She treated me to a particularly good coffee and mince pie, wandered around the shops with me, helped me do my shopping, which I was going to do on Friday which would have entailed dragging heavy trolleys about and catching the bus. Then she treated me to lunch on the way home, having listened to me prattle on all day.

oban hillsEnglish Standard Version (ESV) Proverbs 9 Oil and perfume make the heart glad, and the sweetness of a friend comes from his /her earnest counsel. Sometimes a person just has that gift of bringing things into perspective. God bless you LFS.

A little sunshine.

I am trying to put events from my life into book form, but although I have been writing it for over a year I just can’t get up any enthusiasm to write just now. Perhaps it is because to write about it digs up a lot of baggage I have stored away.

I find the that the weather doesn’t help my mood either, I have spent a great deal of my time in the early part of the morning chasing the contents of the recycling bins around the garden. The wind and rain has been battering against the windows and the sea has been frothing at the mouth.

I need some sunshine, perhaps that’s why famous writers nipped off to Tuscany or some such place to get inspired. As it’s not in a practical walking distance; I shall just have to watch Michael Portillo on the telly instead. He went to Italy this week.

The writer in Ecclesiastes writes in Chapter 11 v 7

“Sunshine is sweet; it is good to see the light of day. 8 People ought to enjoy every day of their lives, no matter how long they live. ..

The Bible tells us, right from the beginning that there is a person behind Creation, and because of this; Michael Lloyd says, that if a Person is behind the whole shebang, then all creation becomes a trysting -place where we may meet our Lover.

You can look at your window and notice the smudges, smears  or bird -poo or you can look through it observe and explore, enjoy and revel.Creation is there to be beautiful and it doesn’t have to be sunny!

Time to do some editing I think.sunshine-(page-picture-large)

partyThe partying time of year is coming around again. I like parties, although I don’t get invited to so many these days. If I do they are very social occasions with grown-up discussions and “mingling” is very much encouraged.

When mingling last year I had an interesting conversation with an elderly lady and noticed that my foot was wet. While she had been talking, her wine glass had been at a slant and she had filled my shoe. It seemed to evaporate quite quickly though.

So far, in the past few weeks, there has been a Hallow’een party, to which my teenage daughter went dressed as a “leopard”. Well sort of, little black dress, ears on a hair band and leopard spot make-up. The most glamorous leopard I have seen.To come are a bonfire night do and a Christmas bash. Her brother partied much earlier in his life and for some reason I always had the attitude of “boys will be boys”, so why is it so much harder to let out the “baby” of the family who has already proved to be extremely sensible?

Her older sisters always phoned to let me know where they were and were always honest about where they were going. I’ve always had a good dialogue with all 6 offspring as they manouvered through their teenage years. Maybe it’s me not wanting to lose the last child into adulthood . I would like to keep her home, but it’s time to let out the imaginary rope again until she decides to cut it in years to come. Weekends with friends are an important part of maturing.

In our christian lives God does the same, He lets us try things out and forgives us when we fall. He allows us to grow but is always there to catch us if things go awry and often do. Journeying the Christian Way has a few troubles ,a few parties and it will all culminate in the party of all parties ,where we throw our crowns about!
